Add textbooks
In Add Textbook, you can add or create records for new textbooks.
Because there may be a record already in your district collection or in Textbook Titles (T²) that would meet your needs or require only minor modifications, you can search for an existing record first.
To create a new record from scratch, click Add Title to open Add Textbook.
You must add or create a title record for the main edition of the textbook before you can create records for copies, teacher's editions and their copies, or kits and their copies. Destiny® references all copies, teacher's editions and kits by their main entry.
To search for a record
important For details on cataloging eTextbooks, see Cataloging eTextbooks.
- If you are not on the Check/Set Sources page, then follow the steps in the blue title bar.
- Select the material type from the Find list.
- Select the field to search from the second list.
- Enter a number or search term.
- Enter an ISBN or the State/Textbook ID to find a specific record.
Make sure to enter the complete number. Number searches return only exact matches.
If you enter an ISBN, Destiny searches for both the 10-digit and the 13-digit form of the ISBN.
For the fastest results for a book in hand, scan the book's ISBN barcode, usually found on the back cover. - If you do not have an ISBN, try searching by the title or author. Enter as much of the name as you can.
- If you have information in the Additional Information field of the title record, enter a keyword from that.
- Enter an ISBN or the State/Textbook ID to find a specific record.
- If your state has a textbook adoption policy, select the check box to retrieve only textbooks that have been adopted by your state.
The Search Results list then displays the year adopted and the year the adoption ends.
When you save the record, the information appears on the Adoption Info tab. - Click Go!.
Include punctuation
If your search term includes words separated by a punctuation mark such as a dash, double-dash, hyphen, or slash, surround the phrase with quotation marks.
For example, if you are trying to find A - Plus Notes for Beginning Algebra, enter "A - Plus Notes for Beginning Algebra".
No matching records
If Destiny does not find any matches, it presents you with an Add Textbook page. To help you create a record, your search term or number is automatically entered in the appropriate field and the material type that you searched for is selected from the list.
If you prefer not to create a record from scratch, search again using a broader search term or a different field, or clear the T² check box, to find a similar record that you can adapt to fit your needs.
Matching records
When Destiny does locate one or more matching records, a list of them appears. Destiny returns all matching records from your collection and up to 200 records from Textbook Titles (T²).
Records from your collection are marked with a red house icon. Always choose one of these, if possible, to avoid having duplicate records in your collection.
Remember that the schools in your district share title records. Copy records, however, belong to the individual schools that own the copies.
Records from Textbook Titles are marked with a T².
To view a record, click the title or Details.
If the record is from your collection, you can just add copies for your school.
If the record is from Textbook Titles, click Save Title to add the title record to your collection.
To save the record and add copies, just click Add Copies.
Once you save the record, you can edit it, add it to your List, or add copies to it. You can also add a teacher's edition or resource kit to the textbook.
If a record from Textbook Titles contains a price, that price becomes the Replacement Price in the title record, not the Purchase Price in the copy.
To search for and save a teacher's edition or a resource kit
- First search for and save—or create from scratch—a record for the main edition of the textbook.
- On the Textbook Details page of the main edition, open the Supplements tab.
- Click either Add TE or Add Kit.
- If the name of the teacher's edition is the same as the main edition, just click Go!, as Destiny retained your main-edition search phrase.
If not, enter a search term and click Go!. - Save and edit the supplement record, and add copies to it, as above.
