Naming your resources
Destiny® allows you to define the way you name your resources.
By default, Destiny supplies only Description, an optional text field.
You can enter a simple text name in the Description field, or assemble the name from up to four fields that you can create in Add Template or Edit Template.
Important: Resource Search looks at only the name of a resource. In addition, several reports are grouped or sorted by the name. For the most productive search results, we recommend that you include the most commonly used terms for your resources. |

As you create your Displayable Names, keep in mind the following rules:
-
Every resource record must have a Displayable Name.
-
By default, all templates inherit their parent's Displayable Name. You can, however, change the Displayable Name for any template.
-
You cannot use Yes/No Checkboxes or Memo fields in the Displayable Name.

Examples
For the shop equipment in your Industrial Arts department, you could use just the text Description field for a generic name. You could then catalog resources such as:
-
Generator
-
Lathe
-
Milling machine
For your computers, you could choose to include more specific information.
You could create the following General Resource Description Fields: Brand, Model name, Model number, and Computer type.
You can then select those fields to be the components of the Displayable Name so that, after cataloging your resources, you would have resources such as:
-
Dell™ OptiPlex™ GX620 Desktop
-
Gateway Profile® 5.5 Desktop
-
HP-Compaq nc6120 Notebook
-
HP-Compaq dx2000 Microtower
