Customize your Stop Words lists

You can modify the default Stop Words lists for your district.
Stop Words are words that are so common that searching on them is not productive. To save time, Destiny® disregards them when they are used in search terms.

You can add or remove words in the Stop Words list for the Catalog and for Patrons. These lists apply district-wide.

About rebuilding the keyword indexes

Any change you make requires rebuilding one or both keyword indexes. You can begin the rebuilding immediately after changing one or both lists, or run it later. The Catalog index is much larger than the Patron index, and takes longer to rebuild.
Please note the following differences in functionality:

  • Clicking Yes on the confirmation message on the Catalog tab rebuilds both the Catalog and the Patron keyword indexes.
  • Clicking Yes on the confirmation message on the Patrons tab rebuilds only the Patron keyword index.
  • Clicking Rebuild Keywords at the bottom of the statistics page rebuilds both the Catalog and the Patron keyword indexes.

Customize the Stop Words

To edit a Stop Words list, open either tab.

  1. To add a word, type up to 20 letters in the box and click Add. The words appear in the list in alphabetical order.
  2. To remove a word, select it in the list and click Remove.
Please note that you cannot remove a, an, or the from the Catalog list.
  3. When the list is complete, and before opening the other tab, click Save.
  4. To rebuild the index now, click Yes on the confirmation message that appears.
If you prefer to rebuild the index later, click No.

Please note that the new Stop Word lists are not in effect until you rebuild the indexes.

Rebuilding the indexes later

Do one of the following:

  • To rebuild just the Patron keyword index, open the Patrons tab of District Stop Words, click Save again, and then click Yes on the confirmation message.
  • To rebuild both indexes, do either of the following:
    • Open the Catalog tab of District Stop Words, click Save again, and then click Yes on the confirmation message.
    • Click Follett School Solutions, Inc. in the band at the bottom of any page, then click Show Details, and finally, at the bottom of the statistics page, click Rebuild Keywords.

Note: To rebuild the indexes quickly, run it as a foreground process.

Reverting to the default list of Stop Words

  1. Click Restore on either tab.
  2. Click Save.
  3. To rebuild the index now, click Yes on the confirmation message that appears.
If you prefer to rebuild it at another time, click No.
