Library Check Out To Patron

Destiny lets you check out copies to patron or by homeroom. The steps involved for these checkout methods differ.
Important: If you have both the Add title from search results and Check out library materials permissions, you can add permanent and temporary title records during checkout. To be able to create temporary records during checkout, you must have the Add temporary titles during checkout permission.

Check Out Copies to a Patron
- Select Circulation > Check Out > To Patron sub-tab. The Check Out page appears.

In the Find field, scan the patron's barcode or type the barcode. The patron information appears. To search by name, see Search by Patron Name.

Make sure the cursor is in the Find field, and scan the barcode on the item being checked out. If you cannot scan an item's barcode, see Search for an Item.

Repeat step 3 for each item the patron is checking out.
When you scan an item, information appears in the Checked Out section. When the next item is scanned in, the previous item is moved to the Items Out section.
- (Optional) Print circulation receipts.
- To check out items for the next patron, repeat steps 2 - 5.
Search by Patron Name
To find the patron by searching for the patron’s name:
- Enter the patron's first, middle or last name, nickname, grade level, homeroom, user name, a value in one of the User Defined fields, or a District ID in the Find field.
Note: If you do not have the whole name or word, enter part of it, followed by *. - To refine your search, you can:
- Deselect the Only my patrons checkbox to search all sites’ patrons.
- Select the Only search checkbox, and select an option from the drop-down to narrow the search based on a patron’s first, middle or last name, Grade Level, Homeroom, etc.
- Select the Only Active Patrons checkbox to search only active patrons.
- Click Find Patron. A list of names that match the search appears.
- Click the name of the patron you want. The patron’s information appears.
- Continue with step 3 in the Check Out Copies to a Patron above.
Search for an Item
To search for an item:
- Make sure the patron information already appears.
- With the cursor in the Find field, enter one or more words of the title or the subject of a title in the Find field, and click Find Copy or press Enter. All the items that match the search are listed.
- Find the correct item.
- Click the item’s title. The barcodes for all copies available to check out appear.
- Click the barcode number of the item being checked out. The item is listed in the Checked Out section of the page.
Change the Due Date
When a copy appears in the Checked Out section, you can change the due date.
Mark Lost
To mark a copy in the Checked Out section lost, click Lost.
In Library Manager, the fine amount suggested is the purchase price from the copy record. If the purchase price is missing, the fine amount is the Max Fine from your
- It says the copy will be marked as lost.
- It lists the patron name and barcode.
- It includes the amount the patron will be charged.
- It includes two buttons: OK and Cancel.
If you click OK, the copy will be marked as lost.
Renew
You can extend the due date by clicking Renew next to a copy in the Checked Out section. For details, see Renew Checkouts.
