Use Genre Features
If you add genre data to Destiny using the Sublocation and Copy Category fields, it is easy for your students to find titles in a particular genre and identify the genre of a search result. Adding genre data also lets you run circulation reports and inventory by genre.

Add Genre Data to Destiny
Use the following steps to add genre data to Destiny:
Note: To ensure accuracy, Follett recommends all genre mapping and shelving work be complete before adding genre data into Destiny. |
Step 1: Create a list of barcode numbers for each genre
There are multiple ways to do this. Follett recommends using a laptop on a cart with a scanner and creating a separate file for each genre.
Step 2: Create and assign genres as copy categories
Start by creating Copy Categories for each genre. Then, you will use the barcode lists you created in Step 1 to assign the appropriate Copy Category to all copies in the corresponding barcode list. This lets you do the following by genre: create bibliographies and reading lists, promote resources, run historical collections statistics reports and more. You will also use it to complete Step 3.
Step 3: Add and assign genre sublocation values
Create Sublocations for each genre, and then use the global update function to quickly add the correct Sublocation in each copy record. This lets you limit a search by genre using the Sublocation limiter, and see the genre of a title in search results.
Step 4: Add genre links to your Destiny Discover homepage
Help your students quickly find titles in a specific genre by including visual links that take them to resources in a specific genre sublocation. Create these links by editing the topics ribbon.
Report on genres
In Report Builder, you can run a report on copies with Sublocations. Report Builder lets you use report limiters when searching on Sublocation (with the exception of searching on null). When searching all and using no limiters, the report groups titles with no sublocations first, then lists titles with sublocations. Run a report at Reports > Report Builder.
Inventory by genre
When starting an inventory in Destiny, you can limit it to one, several or all sublocations.
